  • You have submitted a FAFSA indicating that you are a dependent student for financial aid purposes, but did not include parent information on your FAFSA. Without including parent information, you can only receive an unsubsidized loan if:
         • Your parents no longer provide any support for you; OR
         • Your parents refuse to file the FAFSA.

NOTE: Without parental information on the FAFSA, you will NOT be eligible to receive any federal or state grants, subsidized loans, or any federal work-study. As an alternative to completing this request to receive unsubsidized only, you could complete an Independent Appeal form if you meet the unusual circumstances, you may be deemed Independent and qualify for additional funds.

  • If your parents are willing to verify that they will not be providing support to you and will not complete the FAFSA, please provide their contact information below. Your parents will receive a link to this form for them to sign and submit.

If you do not feel that your parents will be able to submit this form, you may request a paper copy of this form from the Financial Aid Office and have your situation verified by a Third Party such as a teacher, counselor, clergy or court.

  • I understand that by not providing my parents’ information on my FAFSA, my financial aid award may be less than it would otherwise be. I also understand that unsubsidized loans accrue interest from the time the loan is disbursed until it is paid in full. I also understand that getting the loan is NOT guaranteed as Carl Sandburg College evaluates all loan requests on a case-by-case basis and can refuse to certify a loan or can certify a loan amount less than the student’s determination of need. I certify the information provided above is true and complete.
